Former flight attendant arrested in alleged migrant-smuggling network Thai police arrested a former Chinese flight attendant and four others on October 15 over an alleged network moving people illegally between Thailand and Malaysia. The 34-year-old woman, identified by the pseudonym Pan Yudong, was detained in Hat Yai while collecting two Chinese men who admitted entering Thailand illegally from Malaysia. Investigators said Pan had also arranged onward travel for a 25-year-old woman carrying a Vanuatu passport. Officers intercepted that woman at the Padang Besar checkpoint, concealed under clothing in the back seat of a car driven by a Thai man. Pan and the driver were charged with helping people who entered illegally evade arrest. The other three suspects face charges of entering and staying in Thailand without permission. Police are investigating possible links to the sale of citizenship after finding an additional Mexican passport belonging to one Chinese suspect and images of Vanuatu passports on Pan’s phone. They said the woman carrying the Vanuatu passport was Chinese. Pan reportedly moved to Thailand to study after leaving her airline job and coordinated both legal and illegal travel for Chinese nationals. #Thailand #China #Malaysia #Vanuatu #Mexico

Immigration police arrested five people on Thursday, including a former flight attendant, over allegations that they helped foreign nationals move illegally between Thailand and Malaysia. Police said two Chinese men who allegedly entered Thailand through an informal border route in Narathiwat were waiting at a Hat Yai hotel when a Chinese woman, identified as Pan, arrived by hired car to collect them and take them to Bangkok. In a linked case, officers stopped a vehicle at the Padang Besar checkpoint and found a woman hiding beneath clothing in the back seat, police said. She was initially identified as Vanuatu national, though officers later alleged she was Chinese. Police say they are investigating suspected links to passport and nationality-document fraud.
