A 78-year-old retired professor was arrested in Philadelphia after staging a physical standoff with an autonomous delivery robot Carolyn Marvin, a former University of Pennsylvania professor, deliberately blocked the path of an Uber Eats robot on a city sidewalk. She stated that her actions were a planned protest against corporations using automation to replace human delivery workers. When police arrived and asked her to step aside, she refused to let the machine pass. Officers then handcuffed Marvin and charged her with disorderly conduct. Following the incident, she argued her actions are protected free speech and pledged to continue intercepting the devices. Was the police right to arrest a 78-year-old for blocking a machine, or did they go too far? Media: New York Post
